System of supports needed for lone parents during COVID19 Pandemic – O’Dea

Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Employment Affairs & Social Protection Willie O’Dea TD has called for a system of supports to be put in place for lone parent families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Deputy O’Dea said, “Lone parent organisations have raised concerns about the impact of this pandemic on their families. Many are concerned that if they require hospitalisation there will be no one to care for their children. This is a huge worry for them at what is already a very stressful and isolating time.

“It’s important that the government, including the various government agencies, have a system of supports in place, ready to be operationalised for lone parent families if such scenarios arise.

“This pandemic has given rise to an array of issues and dilemmas and I am calling on the government to ensure that the particular problems facing lone parent households is not overlooked during this health emergency”.
