Minister launches second Garda Recruitment Campaign of 2025

Fianna Fáil TD, and party spokesperson on Justice and Defence, Tom Brabazon, has welcomed the second Garda Recruitment Campaign of 2025, announced by the Minister for Justice and the Garda Commissioner.

The campaign opened yesterday and will run for three weeks until the 9th of October.

This reaffirms the Government's commitment to recruiting an additional 5,000 Gardaí over the lifetime of this Government.

Speaking about the campaign Deputy Brabazon said: “I am delighted to see so much proactivity when it comes to recruitment within the Gardaí. This is the second Garda Recruitment campaign of the year, and it reaffirms the Government's commitment to adding 5,000 more Gardaí to the force.

“The launch of a second recruitment campaign this year reflects that commitment. It also shows the Government’s plan is working as we are seeing more Gardaí come through the Garda College and onto our streets.”

In total this year, 571 trainee Gardaí have entered the college including the largest intake since 2019. Another intake is scheduled for November.

New significant steps have taken place to boost recruitment like extending the maximum age to 50 and increasing weekly training allowance to €354.

He said that becoming a member of the Gardaí is a privilege, and a job worth doing.

“Being a member of An Garda Síochána is a job worth doing. Under Minister O’Callaghan the pipeline of new Gardaí is extremely promising. The force is becoming more attractive to applicants, and we are seeing that visibility now on the streets.

He added: “It is essential we protect our communities, and Garda recruitment is one of the most effective measures we have for preventing crime and making people feel safer.
Concluding Deputy Brabazon said, Fianna Fáil is delivering on its commitment in Government.

“Strengthening An Garda Síochána is a key priority for Fianna Fáil in Government, backed by a record €2.48 billion in funding in Budget 2025, a 27% increase since 2020. No doubt the Minister will invest heavily again in Budget 2026, ensuring we have safer communities, more Garda visibility, and reinstate ultimately public confidence around safety.
