Smyth disappointed with further delays in delivery of new Bailieborough Garda Station

Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Niamh Smyth says she is frustrated at the slow pace of delivery of a new Garda Station in Bailieborough.

She explained, “For all of us living in the area the pace of delivery has been incredibly frustrating. This process dates back as far as 2015, yet five years on we are not really any closer to seeing a new Garda Station in the town.

“The latest information provided to me by the acting Minister for Justice and his Department says it will be the end of this year before any contracts for the construction will be awarded. I understand tenders will issue this Summer.

“The construction process is expected to take 18 months. Realistically we are looking at another two and half years before the Station is built. Who knows how long afterwards to kit it out and see it become an operating Garda Station.

Gardaí in the region do tremendous work. However, they require proper facilities which they do not have in Bailieborough. It is imperative we have delivery on this long-awaited Station.

“I will continue to raise this matter with the Department of Justice to ensure progress is made,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
