Almost 14,800 premises in Co Cavan can avail of a high-speed connection
Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan/Monaghan, Brendan Smith, welcomes Cavan homes being able to avail of high-speed fibre broadband under the National Broadband Plan and delivered by National Broadband Ireland.
Under the National Broadband Plan, National Broadband Ireland have announced that Dowra in County Cavan has now been connected so more homes can avail of high-speed fibre broadband, bringing the total homes, farms, and businesses in Cavan who can avail of it to almost 14,800.
Welcoming the news, Brendan Smith said:
“I was delighted to learn late last week that 538 homes and businesses in the Dowra area can now access high-speed fibre broadband. This will allow businesses and homes to access internet quicker and particularly for businesses it enables them to operate more efficiently.
“It will also make businesses more attractive to customers whilst also boosting their own digital capabilities and open their world to new business opportunities through e-commerce and digital marketing.
The completion of works near Dowra means that 14,782 premises that can now pre-order or order high-speed, reliable broadband across Cavan with 5,307 connections made to date. Works have also been completed in rural areas surrounding Cavan town and Cootehill.
The State’s Intervention Area includes remote and rural areas in Ireland where commercial operators have no plans to deliver high-speed broadband – this includes 17,000 premises across Cavan. Cavan will receive €65m of Government investment under the National Broadband Plan.
