McAuliffe calls for extra waste collections during COVID-19 restrictions

Fianna Fail TD for Dublin North West, Paul McAuliffe, has called on domestic waste collection companies to allow customers to dispose of more waste during the Covid-19 restriction period and for an increase in collections across Dublin.

Deputy McAuliffe said: “Families are at home a lot more often now and the amount of domestic waste being produced is increased as schools and workplaces are closed. It would be a great help to households, particularly in terms of hygiene, if they could have extra bags of waste collected or had the frequency of their bin collections increased.”

“It is a small measure but one which would make this period of social isolation easier for households across Dublin. I would like to remind people to continue to keep the appropriate social distance from others if out for a walk or doing the shopping. We all have a role to play here for the well-being of others.”

“Households should also try to increase their levels of recycling during this period and to try reduce the amount of waste being generated. I am calling on the domestic waste collection companies to increase their collections where possible to meet needs,” concluded Deputy McAuliffe.
