Mac Sharry calls on the LGFA To Permit Schools Finals to be held

Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim Marc Mac Sharry has called on the LGFA to immediately arrange to schedule the LidlSenior C All Ireland Final between St Clare’s Comprehensive School Manorhamilton and St Joseph’s Mercy Secondary School Navan Co. Meath and all other Ladies Football Schools finals which remain unable to take place.

The All- Ireland Senior ‘C’ Final was originally scheduled for the 29th of March but has not yet been played due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It seems the LGFA have decided to abandon competition despite the fact that several schools had reached their respective finals.

Deputy Mac Sharry said: “This match should be permitted to be played even behind closed doors. Children and young people have suffered enough during the Covid-19 pandemic. It is an incredible achievement to reach an All-Ireland final and a once in a lifetime opportunity for most.

“There is understandable frustration from parents and children that this match has not yet been held. What makes it worse the Boys Leinster Finals went ahead on the 17th of July, but the girls have not been allowed to play their final.

“We need to think of children and young people and the extraordinary strain this pandemic has put on them. With the appropriate safety precautions there is no reason why these finals can’t take place.  I have written to the LGFA and sought immediate scheduling of all outstanding finals with the appropriate safety measures in place. “
