Fianna Fáil launches campaign on online safety for children
Published on: 01 May 2025
Today Fianna Fáil launched the initial phase of a campaign aimed at protecting children online.
The initial phase, which will focus on parenting in the digital age is being launched today through an online survey for parents.
The aim of the survey is to gather insights directly from parents to hear about the challenges of raising children in a digital age, which will then ensure that future legislation addresses these issues directly.
Parenting in the digital age can be challenging.
In Fianna Fáil we are committed to providing supports and assistance to help parents and guardians navigate the challenges that arise whilst raising children in a digital age.
An online survey for parents was launched today by Deputies Erin McGreehan, Shane Moynihan, John Connolly, and Senator's Imelda Goldsboro and Anne Rabbitte.
Speaking on the launch of the campaign Deputy Connolly said: "Parenting in the digital age can be a challenge. There are concerns from parents around software, monitoring of social media platforms, and harmful content.
"However, all the data that exists in this space has a glaring gap of parental voice, that is why we have launched our survey and campaign today.
Deputy Erin McGreehan, who is a mother to four young boys, has said the campaign is a multi faceted campaign.
"As a mother of four boys, I know the challenges of raising children in a digital age.
"Our campaign is a multi-faceted model with a number of different elements to it. I and a number of my colleagues are very passionate about this, and we have met with relevant stakeholders this week.
"We have held round tables with An Garda Síochána, Coimisiún na Meán, and family phycologist Aoife Noone. We will meet the Parents Association of Ireland, CyberSafeKids, and Webwise in the coming days and weeks. Their intervention is of paramount importance to our campaign which will embark real change.
Deputy Shane Moynihan has stressed the importance of having the parental voice at the heart of the campaign.
"It is so important that we hear from parents who deal with these challenges on a daily basis. We want to know what you are facing and hearing in your households, so that we, the legislators, ensure your voice is heard.
"It is our duty to legislate accurately and efficiently, and that is why we are asking for you to co-operate with our survey.
"Every child deserves to be safe, on every screen, every time."
