Committee Stage brings stalking bill one step closer to legislation – Chambers

Published on: 27 January 2022

Fianna Fáil Senator Lisa Chambers has said her stalking bill proceeding to Committee Stage this Thursday, 27th January 2022, brings the bill one step closer to its enactment.

Senator Chambers commented, “Our legislation to criminalise stalking is progressing. This week I have met the Justice Minister Helen McEntee with Stalking Ireland’s co-funders Eve McDowell and Una Ring to discuss the enacting of this important piece of legislation.

“With the committee stage of the bill approaching, we are another step closer in making stalking a standalone offence this year. By introducing this new law and making stalking a criminal offence we are sending a strong message to any future stalker of the seriousness of the crime and the penalty that will ensue.”
