17% increase in people employed by IDA client companies since 2020 in Galway – Connolly

Fianna Fáil TD for Galway West, John Connolly, has welcomed the continued growth of jobs the IDA has supported in Galway in recent years.
 
By way of Parliamentary Question, Deputy John Connolly asked the Minister for Enterprise; Tourism and Employment the number of jobs the IDA supported in Galway in 2025 compared to 2020.
 
In his response, the Minister stated that there were 21,619 people employed by IDA client companies in 2020, and this increased to 25,430 by 2025, an increase of almost 17%, or 3,811 people. 
 
Speaking on the presented figures, Deputy Connolly says the work of the IDA is having a great impact in Galway.
 
“I am delighted to see such great numbers employed in Galway through the IDA. The IDA does vital work in bringing foreign direct investment not just into our country, but into our local towns and villages.
 
“Here in Galway and in the West, we have some world renown companies. Across the West there are 133 IDA client companies, that employ over 32,500 people. This increase of 17% or over 3,800 people being employed through the help of the IDA is fantastic news for Galway,”  he said.
 
Figures show a strong increase in employment in the West (Galway, Roscommon, and Mayo) over the last six years through IDA performance, with a 16% increase in employment since 2020.
 
Concluding, Deputy Connolly praised the work the IDA Is doing to support job creation throughout the country.
 
“The IDA is crucial for us to attract foreign direct investment into the country. I am particularly please to see that positive impact locally.
 
He added: “Through my engagement with the Minister, he informed me that IDA Ireland supported the delivery of 973 investments and creation of 76,790 jobs. 54% of these investments were won to regional locations. In the West Region 91 investments were won against the target of 76.
 
“The work of the IDA cannot be understated; it is continuing to create jobs even in turbulent political times across the globe,” he concluded.
