Personal Data is any information that relates to an identified or identifiable individual.

The following Data Protection Information Notice (‘Notice’) is being provided to you to inform you of how the Personal Data provided by you will be collected, used, by whom and for what purposes. What is the purpose of, and legal basis for, the processing my Personal Data?

The purpose of processing your Personal Data depends on the reason you have provided it to Fianna Fáil.
This website facilitates:

  • the submission of views and opinions;
  • the submission of membership applications or membership renewals to Fianna Fáil and Ógra Fhianna Fáil;
  • the making of a donation; and
  • the request to volunteer with Fianna Fáil.

You may also have completed a hard copy membership application/renewal form, or you may have booked a ticket to a Fianna Fáil event such as the Cáirde Fáil.

Personal Data which you have provided may include your Name, Address, Contact details, Date of Birth, Bank account or credit card details.

Fianna Fáil collect this information and maintain it on an electronic database and in hard copy form, where applicable. Fianna Fáil may also use your contact information to communicate with you.

You may have entered the Fianna Fáil annual Superdraw or other draws by completing a physical ticket stub or purchasing a ticket(s) by telephone or online. Personal Data which you provided includes your Name, Address, Contact Number, Credit/Debit Card Number. The Personal Data collected by Fianna Fáil will be used for the purpose of administering the Superdraw including the publication of winners' (who will be chosen at random) names and counties of residence in accordance with the ASAI Code of Standards for Advertising and Marketing Communications in Ireland (section 5.34).

The processing of your Personal Data can reveal your political opinions such as your membership or affiliation with Fianna Fáil, which is regarded as Special category Personal Data under the GDPR.

Fianna Fáil are permitted to process your Personal Data and Special category Personal Data under the GDPR and under the Irish Data Protection Acts 1988 to 2018. When this processing is in relation to the renewal and maintenance of your membership, it is done so on the basis that the processing is necessary to enable Fianna Fáil pursue its legitimate interest of maintaining your membership of the party in the course of the electoral activities of Fianna Fáil. When you submit Personal Data to Fianna Fáil that may reveal your political opinions (for example, through a feedback form submitted on this website), Fianna Fáil will only process this information on the basis that the processing is necessary to enable Fianna Fáil to compile data on people’s political opinions in the course of its electoral activities. Processing can also be for the performance of our contract with you where you purchase a ticket to attend a Fianna Fáil event so that we can process your order.

When processing Special category Personal Data for the submission of an entry to a Fianna Fáil fundraiser (e.g. prize draws) or to donate or to volunteer or to submit a political view or political opinion. It is done so on the basis of your explicit consent which we request at the time you provide your Personal Data and which you can withdraw at any time by contacting dpo@fiannafail.ie with the subject "Unsubscribe" or by visiting our opt-out page.

Direct marketing: In addition, Fianna Fáil may communicate with you information about certain events and fundraising events via email and/or text message if you have consented to this. You have the right to withdraw your consent at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal. If you wish to exercise this right, please send us an email to dpo@fiannafail.ie with a header that says “Unsubscribe” or use the “Unsubscribe” button in any such email or by visiting our opt-out page. We may use your Personal Data to send you online advertisements. These online adverts will promote Fianna Fáil and our policies. We may also use your Personal Data to tailor our online advertisements to attempt to ensure they are relevant to you. In order to show you such online advertisements we will need to share your Personal Data with relevant service providers. You can opt-out of such online advertising at any time by visiting our opt-out page. It may take a few days for such opt-out requests to become effective.

 

Will anyone else receive a copy of my Personal Data?

Your Personal Data can be accessed by staff in Fianna Fáil Headquarters, and may be provided to officials, elected representatives, candidates, officers in your Cumann, Comhairle Ceantair, and the Comhairle Dáilcheantair. This will be done in accordance with this Notice only.

Fianna Fáil use external providers for sending out membership forms and mailing; for sending out emails; for sending text messages, for payment processing as well as for producing membership cards. All of these providers are Data Processors on behalf of Fianna Fáil and contracts are in place with them to ensure they treat your Personal Data securely and in compliance with the GDPR.

 

Will anyone else have access to my Personal Data?

Your Personal Data will be stored electronically on the Fianna Fáil Membership Database and hard copies will be stored in secure filing cabinets. During maintenance of the database, IT support and Database Support providers may have access to the Personal Data in the database. Such providers are Data Processors and contracts are in place with them to ensure they treat your Personal Data securely and in compliance with the GDPR. If you enter the Superdraw and you win, your name and county of residence will be published on this website and included in the relevant weekly bulletin after all winners have been contacted. Please contact dpo@fiannafail.ie if you would prefer not to have your name published.

 

Will my Personal Data be transferred outside of the European Economic Area?

Your Personal Data may be sent outside of the European Economic Area ('EEA') as a result of Fianna Fáil’s use of certain software (e.g. Google), the providers of which store and process some of its data in servers outside of the EEA, including Australia and the USA. Such transfers are on the basis of safeguard measures such as standard contractual clauses under Article 46.2 of the GDPR or an adequacy decision by the European Commission under Article 45 of the GDPR.

 

How long will my Personal Data be stored for?

In general we will only keep your Personal Data for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it is collected and for a reasonable period of time thereafter.

Personal Data obtained for the purpose of membership or volunteering is retained indefinitely. Personal Data obtained for donation or Superdraw purposes may be retained for 5 years after the transaction as details may be required after this time in order to comply with certain legal obligations to which Fianna Fáil is subject to for example, the Standards in Public Office and to demonstrate proof of payment.

 

How can I obtain a copy of the Personal Data held by Fianna Fáil?

Fianna Fáil will respond to your request within one month of receipt. That period may be extended by two further months where necessary, taking into account the complexity and number of requests. We will inform you of any such extension within one month of receipt of your request. We may request proof of identification to verify your request. We have the right to refuse your request where there is a basis to do so in law, or if it is manifestly unfounded or excessive, or to the extent necessary for important objectives of public interest.

 

What other rights do I have?

You have the right to request access to, rectification, or erasure of your Personal Data, or restriction of processing or object to processing of your Personal Data, as well as the right to data portability. In each case, these rights are subject to restrictions as laid down by law.
