Meet Erin

Meet Erin
Erin McGreehan grew up in in Cooley Peninsula in Co. Louth. She went to school locally in Mullaghbuoy N.S. and Bush Post Primary School. Erin continued her studies in the National University of Ireland, Galway (NUIG) where she undertook a Degree in Public and Social Policy, followed by a postgraduate Bachelor of Laws. After that, Erin completed a Masters in European Economics and Public Affairs in University College Dublin (UCD).

Erin was successfully elected to Louth County Council in May 2019, in her first time running in the local elections. In June 2020, she was nominated to the 26th Seanad by An Taoiseach Micheál Martin. As a Senator, she was the Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Children, Disability, Equality and Integration. Erin also served on the Oireachtas Committee on Disability Matters and the Oireachtas Committee on Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth.

Erin was elected to the 34th Dáil in the 2024 General Election, where she serves as Chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Further & Higher Education, Research, Innovation, and Science, and Spokesperson on Research and Innovation. She is also a member of the Oireachtas Committee on the Implementation of the Good Friday Agreement and the Oireachtas Committee on Finance, Public Expenditure, Public Service Reform and Digitalisation, and Taoiseach. 

Erin’s priorities centre on strengthening communities, fostering collaboration, and supporting sustainable development. Her work is built on addressing inequalities affecting minorities, people with disabilities, and lower income families. She places strong emphasis on cross border cooperation, supporting both urban and rural development, and protecting the cultural and economic fabric of the Northeast. She also highlights the importance of economic resilience, particularly in an unstable global economic environment. McGreehan is committed to advancing education, research, and innovation through her work at both local and national levels.

Growing up on a small rural farm, Erin understands and respects the importance of our agricultural industry. In the Dáil, Erin has worked extensively to promote farmers’ interests and ensure the field’s competitiveness on the global stage. Erin and her family are active members of her local athletic club, Glenmore A.C.
