Fianna Fáil Dublin West TD, Jack Chambers has said that the Project Ireland 2040 plans, which were launched this afternoon, blatantly ignore the critical need to improve major transport issues in West Dublin.

Deputy Chambers concluded, “Today’s plans outright failed to provide for any upgrade to the already weak transport infrastructure in Dublin West.

“Despite the fact South Dublin already has existing LUAS and Dart lines, Government have now decided to provide for a new Metro link to Dublin South in today’s plans.

“While South Dublin continues to gain from having a Minister that uses his support to Government as a toy to deliver for his area, the residents of Dublin West have been forced to deal with worsening transport issues.

“It is nonsensical to have included plans for yet another mode of transport for South Dublin while the West side of the city continues to lag behind in terms of congestion and transport.

“Anyone living or working in Dublin West can tell you that developing a light rail link or making significant improvements to the bus corridor would make complete sense.

“There are significant gaps in existing services; Dublin Bus routes are currently insufficient to deal with the growing population and traffic congestion remains a real issue for most.

Chambers concluded, “It’s quite difficult to comprehend that in approving €7billion of taxpayer money to fund transport projects across Dublin; the Taoiseach overlooked his own constituency.”
