Fianna Fáil Foreign Affairs and Trade Spokesperson, Darragh O’Brien said:

“Obviously the news that one of the suspects had an Irish address and an Irish residency card is very concerning.

“This demonstrates the need for vigilance at all times, and enhanced coordination between Government and our security services.

“The fact that this person went through our screening processes and nothing came up is a worry. Were An Garda Síochána aware of this individual, and were there any suspicious activities associated with this individual while in Ireland? These two questions need answering.

“Minister Flanagan is, I feel, being quite complacent. His comments yesterday about the likelihood of an attack in Ireland were both breath-taking and irresponsible.

“It’s clear that we cannot be complacent about security risks of this nature any longer,” concluded O’Brien.
