Longford-Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Robert Troy has welcomed the decision of Westmeath County Council to grant planning permission for the first part of a major investment in Athlone.

Deputy Troy said: “The €175m investment at Creggan will be a major boost for the economy in the midlands and create 1200 jobs during the construction phase of the international trade and commerce centre.

“This centre will promote trade between China, Europe and America. I have been strongly supportive of this project as a member of Westmeath County Council and I hope to see it progressing over the coming months.

“The midlands is in need of significant investment to create jobs and a project on this scale will be of huge benefit and will showcase the region and the country to new markets and companies.

“I want to commend the work of all those involved in the company behind the project, Athlone Business Park Ltd, and wish them continued success with the development.”
