Fianna Fáil TD for Longford – Westmeath Robert Troy has paid tribute to Labour TD Willie Penrose following the announcement that he will retire at the next General Election.

Deputy Troy said, “I want to take this opportunity to wish Willie all the best with his retirement. He has served the people of Westmeath for many years having first been co-opted to the County Council in 1984 and later being elected to Dáil Éireann in 1994.

“While we may have had our political differences down through the years, I must put on the record that Willie has always been a helpful colleague. Willie is committed to working with all public representatives to get the best outcome for the people of Westmeath. I want to thank him for that.

“My own mother taught Willie from a young age and was a supporter of him when he was first elected to the Dáil. He was the first TD elected from our home village of Ballynacargy and I have always held him in high regard for his achievements. I want to wish him all the best in his retirement,” concluded Deputy Troy.
