Longford-Westmeath TD Robert Troy has said he is extremely saddened to learn of the death today of Deputy Nicky McFadden at the age of 51.

Deputy Troy commented: “I want to extend my deepest condolences to Nicky’s family, friends and colleagues in Fine Gael at this very difficult time.  Nicky bravely battled her condition since being diagnosed in 2012, while simultaneously raising awareness of motor neurone disease.

“Nicky performed her duties as a TD with dignity and poise and she will be sorely missed as a colleague in Leinster House and as a public representative in Longford-Westmeath.

“I have known Nicky since 2004, when we were both elected to serve on Westmeath County Council.  I have always found her to be warm, pleasant and she always acted in the best interests of her constituents.

“I want to offer my deepest sympathies to Nicky’s family, her two children, her family and friends.”
