Fianna Fáil spokesperson on Children and Youth Affairs Robert Troy TD has called for an independent review into the response of the child protection system to abuse allegations that have recently come to light in the foster care system.

Deputy Troy said, “Following the RTÉ Prime Time report of a case of a child who remained within their foster care placement after abuse allegations had come to light, I have submitted a motion to the Dáil calling for an independent inquiry into this and similar cases.

“We need to know whether this was an isolated failing on behalf of the child protection services or whether it represents more widespread systematic failings.

“An independent inquiry must be given a terms of reference which enables it to uncover any potentially systematic failings within the child protection and welfare services,” said Deputy Troy.
