Fianna Fáil Leader, Micheál Martin TD, has welcomed the statement by Minister Leo Varadkar today confirming that he is not voting for Mr John McNulty in the forthcoming Seanad bye-election.
Minister Varadkar said he believes voting for Mr McNulty would add to the cynicism about politics.
Deputy Martin commented: “The Taoiseach needs to state clearly whether he wants the Fine Gael Oireachtas members to vote for Mr McNulty or not.
“The Taoiseach seems to have changed his mind two or three times and even though the whole episode has “sickened him” and even though he apologised for dropping his own and his party’s standards he has fallen short of directing his members about how to vote in the bye-election.
“The Taoiseach needs to come clean and be honest about how he is going to vote in the Seanad bye-election. If Minister Leo Varadkar can declare his intentions so can the Taoiseach.”
