Fianna Fáil Whip Seán Ó Fearghaíl has responded to the Taoiseach’s claims today that the last Government did not attend EU meetings.
Deputy Ó Fearghaíl said: “For the second day in a row, the Taoiseach has made unfounded and scurrilous comments about the last Government in a blatant attempt to distract attention from the failings of his own. This time in the context of Government failure on job creation.
“The only independent analysis of Ministerial attendance at EU meetings (attached) shows (at page 6) that Ireland was actually ranked 5th out of all 27 member states for attendance at EU Ministers meetings.
“In making his unfounded allegations, the Taoiseach has also forgotten one of the key features of his leadership of Fine Gael while in opposition. Namely, the deeply cynical tactic of removing pairings at times of critical votes.
“The debate about job creation is too serious for silly and inaccurate political point-scoring from the head of Government.”
