I extend my deepest sympathies to the people of Norway for the awful tragedy which occurred yesterday, resulting in the death of many young people and political activists.

This is an extremely difficult time for the people of Norway.  I want to extend my condolences to the families of all those who died in yesterday’s bombing in Oslo and shooting on Utoeya Island, resulting in dozens of lives lost.

Many people in Norway have described this as the most violent event in Norway since the Second World War.  For those of us who work in politics and encourage more young people into politics the details of the shooting in particular are extremely disturbing.

I have extended my sympathies to Ambassador Øyvind Nordsletten and asked him to convey this message to Prime Minister Stoltenberg on behalf of my party.
