Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin TD and the party’s Brexit Spokesperson Lisa Chambers TD met this afternoon with Britain’s Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster and Minister for the Cabinet Office, David Lidington MP for a discussion on the evolving Brexit situation.
Deputy Martin commented, “We welcomed the opportunity this afternoon to meet with Mr Lidington and hear first hand an update on where things are from a British perspective. He updated us on ongoing discussions between Britain and the European Union.
“It was a professional and constructive meeting in which we emphasised the need to avoid a No Deal Brexit and the very negative effects such an outcome would have on both our countries. We also emphasised the importance of maintaining the Good Friday Agreement and protecting the full European Union rights of Irish citizens living in the North.
“We have agreed to keep this channel of communications open.”
