As our leader Micheál Martin said earlier, we are eager to ensure that next week’s Dáil sitting deals with some substantive business. If the government proposes to bring forward urgent legislation we will insist that this be done in accordance with their agreement to allow due time to consider the bills before debate.

We will be proposing to the other parties that the best use of the Dáil’s time next week would be the holding of a proper debate concerning the programme for government. This would give new ministers an opportunity to expand on many areas in the programme which remain very general and for TDs to make a contribution.
