I am saddened to learn of the death of Sir Oliver Napier.
He made a thoughtful and honourable contribution to the development of progressive politics in Northern Ireland.
Oliver Napier was always a strong and steadfast voice for peace and sanity. Even in the midst of some of the most violent days in the history of the conflict of Northern Ireland, Oliver never waivered from his conviction that both communities could come together and live in peace and harmony.
He espoused an inclusive and tolerant approach to the problems of Northern Ireland. He trenchantly opposed sectarianism in all its guises.
His career was a noble one devoted to bring an end to the log-jam of violence and sectarianism which for so long blighted Northern Ireland.
He will be sadly missed but his contribution to better days will long be remembered.
May he rest in Peace.
