Fianna Fáil TD for Cork North Central, Billy Kelleher TD, has called on the owners of Highway Retail which runs the Texaco garage on the North Ring Road to pay staff their remaining entitlements.
Staff at the filling station have staged a sit-in on the premises in order to receive entitlements due to them.
Deputy Kelleher commented: “It is a disgrace that staff at the Texaco garage on North Ring Road have been forced to stage a sit-in in order to receive the various entitlements due to them. This is simple – the workers are owed money and it should be paid. I am calling on Highway Retail to honour its commitments to its staff and pay up.
“I want to commend the staff at the Texaco station for their courage in standing up to their employers and standing up for their rights. The staff are only looking for what they are entitled to, their demands are not unfair or outrageous. I have had extensive experience engaging with companies, employees and worker representatives over many years and there is no reason for this dispute to escalate any further. I would call on Highway Retail to recognise their obligations in this regard and bring this to a satisfactory end.
“The negative publicity the company has received will only do them further damage until they do the right thing.”
