Is lá an-thábhachtach é, Lá Fhéile Pádraig. Tugann sé deis dúinn go léir ár gcultúr agus ár n-oidhreacht a cheiliúradh. Ta súil agam go mbainfaidh gach duine sa tír seo and thar lear taitneamh as an lá.

I want to extend my best wishes to everyone in Ireland this St. Patrick’s Day and to all Irish people around the world.

Today we celebrate our national day.  It is a day when Ireland can uniquely showcase itself and our people to the world.  St. Patrick’s Day for me is a celebration of all that Ireland is – its culture, its history, its people and its contribution to Europe and the world.

Our national day brings great colour and pride to our communities and to the streets of many countries around the world.  There is great pride in the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day and I want to extend my thanks to all those who participate in organising parades and other celebrations in town and cities at home and abroad.

Today, Ireland is on the world stage but for some time the eyes of the world have been watching as Ireland was severely affected by global economic turmoil and significant domestic challenges.  Today we have an opportunity to send out a strong and positive message that Ireland and her people will get through this crisis.  We will come out of this unprecedented economic crisis stronger, more competitive and we will continue to play a leading role on the world stage.

I want to wish every person with a connection to our country a happy and enjoyable St. Patrick’s Day.
