Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary has called on the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection to find a resolution to avoid industrial action being taken by CE supervisors and Assistant Supervisors. Industrial action is being planned following the failure of the Government to address the issue of pension entitlements for these workers.

Deputy Calleary said “It is time the Minister took ownership of this matter and put together a plan to provide Community Employment scheme supervisors with the justified pension and entitlements they deserve.

“In advance of industrial action, the Minister withdrew a letter which has warned of funding being cut to schemes partaking in industrial action, while it was withdrawn, and the Chairpersons written to at the first opportunity by the Minister, I hope this is not a reflection of the attitude toward the schemes within the Department.

“CE schemes have become a vital part of our communities, particularly in rural areas. They must be treated with respect. The Minister for Public Expenditure and Reform, along with the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection should meet with the unions representing CE Supervisors and Assistant Supervisors to find a resolution for all involved,” concluded Deputy Calleary.
