Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Arts & Culture Niamh Smyth has extended her congratulations to Man Booker Prize winner Anna Burns.

Deputy Smyth said, “I want to congratulate Anna Burns on being the first ever Northern Irish author to win the Man Booker prize.  This is a huge achievement, and sees her following in the footsteps of other exceptional Irish writers such as Anne Enright, John Banville, Roddy Doyle, Iris Murdoch and JG Farrell.

“Milkman is a fascinating read, portraying The Troubles in a way which has rarely been told before.  I want to pay tribute to her extraordinary writing skill.

“This win is a huge recognition of her talent and I want to extend my congratulations to her on this wonderful work of fiction”.
