Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan Brendan Smith has welcomed the expansion of Combilift, and the creation of 200 new jobs. The company, which was established in 1998, already employs 300 people at its plants in Clontibret and Monaghan, and today’s announcement will see that number significantly increased.
Deputy Smith commented, “This €40 million investment is a major boost for Combilift and for Monaghan, and is as a result of the hard work and determination of staff and management at the company. This is a business which has been growing steadily over the past 15 years through the innovation and imagination of Martin McVicar, Robert Moffett and their team of engineers, technicians and support staff. It has been a fantastic success story to date, and this latest investment will see it expand and develop into the future.
“The timing of this news is extremely poignant. Only last week Bose announced that it’s to close its facility in Carrickmacross with the loss of 140 jobs. It makes today’s announcement all the more welcome. Along with the 200 full time positions at Combilift, a further 200 jobs will be created during the construction phase.
“This expansion is testament to the quality of the workforce in the region. This Government needs to do more to encourage and support local businesses to enable them to follow in the footsteps of the Combilift success story. What began as a local venture is now a global leader in its field, and I wish to pay tribute to the staff and management of Combilift for their commitment, dedication and enthusiasm in growing and expanding this extremely successful business”.
