Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs and Trade Brendan Smith has denounced North Korea’s launch of a long range rocket.

Commenting on the issue Smith said, ‘The actions of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) are deeply disturbing.  Such a flagrant violation of several UN Security Council resolutions is appalling and must be met with appropriate action from the international community.

“The actions of the DPRK are a threat to peace and security and could destabilise the entire North East Asia region.  In addition their actions underscore the need for engagement of all stakeholders on the issue of nuclear disarmament.

“Those of us who value peace, security and stability must be unequivocal in our condemnation of the actions of DPRK.  Far too much is at stake to sit idly by and do nothing”.
