Fianna Fáil Spokesperson for Foreign Affairs Brendan Smith TD has condemned this morning’s terrorist attacks in Brussels.

Deputy Smith commented, “The events unfolding in Brussels are deeply shocking. Already we know that there has been a significant loss of life, and the families and friends of those with relatives in Brussels will be understandably worried as further information comes through. Our thoughts and prayers are with the relatives of those who have lost loved ones and with those who still wait for information.

“This attack is a stark reminder of the threats associated with radical extremism. Every effort must be made at both a national and European level to confront those who wish to bring terror and chaos to our communities.

“I encourage the Irish Government to do all it can to assist the Belgian authorities with their investigation. A co-ordinated response across Europe is needed to ensure that those responsible for this horrendous crimes are brought to justice.”
