Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim Eamon Scanlon has been informed that funding has been approved and the project render documentation has been finalised for the Western Distributor Road project.
Deputy Scanlon asked the Transport Minister for an update on the status of the project in the Dáil yesterday and was told that Sligo County Council has now been given approval to invite tenders for the construction contract.
“This road will provide the necessary infrastructure to ensure that Sligo and its environs can be developed to their full potential. The IDA has, time and again, highlighted the importance of the Western Distributor Road, so that it can progress sites and facilities on that parcel of land. This will not only bring investment to the region, it will create much needed employment opportunities for the North West”, said Deputy Scanlon.
“I welcome the news that the Department of Transport has committed funding for the construction phase of the project this year. In fact, some of the advanced works, including fencing and clearance, is already underway.
“This project provides a much needed boost for the area, and I am hopeful that it will result in renewed interest from local and multinational companies. I am urging Sligo County Council to move quickly to progress the works so that the road and the accompanying investment opportunities can be advanced without delay”.
