Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim, Eamon Scanlon, says the National Transport Authority have confirmed to him they will install bus shelters throughout County Sligo during a dedicated programme in 2020.
Deputy Scanlon made particular reference to bus shelters required in Sligo Town.
“I am very happy to receive confirmation from the NTA following my requests that bus shelters will be provided throughout County Sligo. I made particularly reference to Sligo Town, which receives a higher volume of passengers-this area should be prioritised under the forthcoming delivery programme and it is a point I have made in my dialogue with the NTA.
“We have a limited public transport network in Sligo, and many are reliant on Bus Éireann services. It is crucial that these services run on time, are accessible for all, and provide adequate shelter for passengers waiting at bus stops.
“Under the current government public transport has become an unreliable and oversubscribed daily ordeal for many.
“However, the response from the NTA following my requests are positive and a step in the right direction. I will keep the pressure on until we see real delivery of these shelters for commuters in Sligo,” concluded Deputy Scanlon.
