“The revelations in last night’s RTÉ Investigates programme were distressing and downright disgusting in some cases,” said Fianna Fáil’s Health Spokesperson, Stephen Donnelly.
“There is an urgent need to ensure that the HSE plays fair by the families of patients in long term residential care.
“To see people being wronged for asserting themselves on behalf of their loved ones is just not acceptable. Restricting family visits to suffering patients is simply inhumane.
“Minister Harris needs to immediately investigate, and if it the case that access is being used to punish relatives who are legitimately complaining about the care their loved ones are receiving, then people must be held to account, up to and including losing their jobs, if appropriate.
“This type of behaviour is simply unacceptable and must not be tolerated by the Government and the HSE,” concluded Donnelly.
