Fianna Fáil Roscommon County Councillors and the Independent Councillors Alliance Group have demanded an urgent meeting with the Taoiseach Enda Kenny today following his shock statement in relation to Roscommon County Hospital.

Speaking on a visit to Co. Roscommon today, Enda Kenny said that the Emergency Department at Roscommon County Hospital will no longer operate on a 24 hour basis after the 11 July 2011.

At today’s monthly meeting of Roscommon County Council, Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Orla Leyden described the decision as ‘catastrophic’. Cllr. Leyden put forward a proposal calling on the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and the Minister for Health James Reilly to meet with all Councillors and Oireachtas members in Roscommon as a matter of urgency. The proposal was seconded by Cllr. John Keogh.

Cllr. Leyden said that the people of Roscommon deserve to know the truth about the future of accident and emergency services at Roscommon County Hospital.
