Fianna Fáil TD for Mayo Dara Calleary has asked the Minister for Finance to intervene following a change to a form which allows people to claim back medical expenses. The new form is longer and difficult to obtain without internet access.
Deputy Calleary commented “Revenue have changed the MED1 form which has made things incredibly difficult for people trying to claim back medical expenses. I have had numerous constituents visit my offices in Ballina and Ballyhaunis with confusion regarding the new form. It has been an unnecessary and stressful change.
“The new form is 14 pages long, compared to the old two page form, and is only available if you have email and internet access. Many people in rural County Mayo do not have access to high speed broadband to get these forms. There is also an elderly population who would not use the internet and relied on the old forms.
“The Minister for Finance must intervene and bring back the simple MED1 form as the new process is causing much difficulty,” concluded Deputy Calleary.
