Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Climate Action, Jack Chambers has welcomed the announcement of a new ambitious retrofitting programme as outlined in the Draft Programme for Government.

The plan, which was published earlier this week will see the introduction of a new area-based approach which targets at least 500,000 homes by 2030.

Deputy Chambers said: “The upgrading of our housing stock will play a vital role in the delivery of our commitments on climate change. The plan which has been put forward in the programme for government is the only one thus far announced which delivers to the scale which is required.

“These retrofits will also play a vital role in driving down the cost of living for many of those currently living in fuel poverty or at risk of fuel poverty through lower energy bills and warmer homes. Through its focus on the Midlands initially, it will also be a further indicator of our commitment to a Just Transition,” concluded Deputy Chambers.
