James Lawless TD

TD for Kildare North, and Deputy Spokesperson on Science, Technology, & Research and Development

Meet James

James Lawless TD represents the constituency of Kildare North and is the Fianna Fáil Science and Technology spokesperson. He sits on the Business, Innovation, and Enterprise Committee along with the Communications, Climate Action, and Environment Committee, of which he was elected Vice Chairperson.

Deputy Lawless is engaged with many stakeholders in the research and development sector including many agencies and universities across Ireland and Europe. He believes that basic research needs to be funded to a far greater extent in order to ensure we remain competitive.

Locally, Deputy Lawless has been a strong advocate for commuter services with a particular focus on train services into Kildare North and the widening of the M7 motorway and Sallins Bypass. He has advocated for the renewal of Naas town and other urban centres and works closely with local traders and business interests. Health, housing, broadband, road infrastructure and local GP services are a snapshot of the many other policy areas Deputy Lawless is working on.

Before politics, Deputy Lawless studied Maths and Physics at Trinity College Dublin, Law at Kings Inns and is a qualified Barrister. He is married with two children and is a regular at his local Parkrun.
