Anne Rabbitte TD hails from a small town in the west of Ireland, Portumna, Co. Galway. A widowed mother to three children in second level education, she has been a Teachta Dala (TD) for the Galway East constituency since the 2016 General Election.
She was a member of Galway County Council from 2014 to 2016. In May 2016, she was appointed to the Fianna Fáil front bench as Spokesperson for Children & Youth Affairs.
Anne worked 25 years for a financial institutions and is a qualified financial adviser. For 3 years, Anne ran a community childcare facility.
She has focused herself on some key areas about which she is truly passionate about and has contributed to the following Dáil discussions on these main topics.
Affordable childcare – childcare costs, supports for stay-at-home parents
Agriculture – Fodder & tillage crises, Rural Social Scheme, hen harrier
Crime –Local Garda recruitment & resourcing, community alert schemes
Rural Ireland – Community Development, support, protection of services
Tourism – Economic Growth, VAT Rates,
Older People – Home Care Packages, home help hours, cataract services
Rural Ireland – Road maintenance, broadband availability, local public services
Housing – Social housing, choice based lettings, unfinished estates
Pension equality for those retired since 2012
Health – Portiuncula Hospital services, waiting lists, primary medical certificates
Vulnerable Groups – Domestic violence, disability services
She is a member of Oireachtas Committees and All-Party groups in relation to:
– Children and Youth Affairs
– Dementia
– Eight Amendment of the Constitution
– Future of Mental Health Care
– Retail Excellence
