Willie O’Dea, Fianna Fáil TD for Limerick City has said that following the revelations contained in this week’s RTÉ Investigates broadcast which centred on whistle blowing in UL, the two employees who are currently suspended from their roles should be reinstated as soon as possible.
“These two ladies were treated terribly by certain elements of the University’s senior management”, said Deputy O’Dea.
“The way in which whistle blowers are dealt with and treated needs to change. The RTÉ Investigates programme clearly identified some of the deep malaise at the heart of the university.
“The new President, Dr. Des Fitzgerald has, I hope, turned a new page for the University, and I hope that under his tenure the institution becomes more transparent and open.
“I would urge Dr. Fitzgerald to immediately lift the suspension of these two people.
“UL must from today forward work hard to win back the trust of students, staff and indeed, the wider Limerick public. Reinstating these two employees would demonstrate Dr. Fitzgerald’s commitment to that task,” concluded Deputy O’Dea.
