Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Health Billy Kelleher is calling on the Minister for Health to immediately publish the report he has received into the death of Savita Halappanavar last October.
Deputy Kelleher said: “In light of the report being leaked it is essential that Minister Reilly move to publish the full report as a matter of urgency. We cannot have a situation where an issue as sensitive and serious as this is being reported on in the media, based on a partial leaking of the document, and the family concerned and the public do not have access to the full facts.
“The death of Savita Halappanavar at Galway University Hospital last October was a terrible tragedy. The Dáil must continue to deal sensitively and respectfully with this issue. In that regard I do not believe it’s appropriate for this report to be leaked before the Minister has brought it to the Dáil for consideration. I fear that the early leaking of a partial report into Savita’s death has the potential to threaten the tone of the debate, as different lobby groups seek to emphasise different parts of this leaked document.
“In order to protect the integrity of the Oireachtas decision making process and ensure that this debate remains as mature and fact based as possible, the Minister must bring forward his plans and publish the full facts immediately.”
