Fianna Fáil Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher has described a decision by the HSE to limit the number of incontinence pads it will provide to Medical Card holders in nursing homes in Kilkenny and Carlow as a “disgraceful attack on the dignity of elderly patients.”
Deputy Kelleher said: “Limiting the number of incontinence pads the HSE will provide to medical card holders in nursing homes to just three pads per day is a cruel and disgraceful policy on older people. I cannot believe that the HSE would impose such a policy and it must be immediately reversed.
“I am calling on Minister James Reilly to immediately intervene here and have this decision reversed. It is an attack on the dignity of older people. This is against the details of the Fair Deal scheme and it cannot be allowed to continue.
“I fully support the calls today of Nursing Homes Ireland and Age Action to have this awful policy reversed and I hope the Minister responds quickly and appropriately to this.”
