Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Health Billy Kelleher has said there is an urgent need for the Minister for Health to clarify his involvement in the negotiation of a multi-million euro pension for its chief executive.
Deputy Kelleher said: “Minister Reilly has been surprisingly silent on this issue which is a cause of significant concern for doctors who are members of the Irish Medial Organisation. As a former IMO President Dr. Reilly must clarify what role he had if any in Mr. McNeice being granted terms and conditions that would have entitled him to a pension pot of up to €20M.
“This is an outrageous sum and while I welcome that the fact that it has been negotiated down, it is still significantly out of line with acceptable practice.
“It is vital that Minister Reilly make a clear statement on this matter. As Minister for Health he has a clear role in negotiating on the public’s behalf with the IMO on a range of issues and his potential involvement in this particular crisis is a matter of legitimate public concern and should be clarified.”
