Fianna Fáil Health Spokesperson Billy Kelleher has said the complete inaction on the part of the Minister for Health James Reilly to deal with patient safety concerns at the Mid Western Regional Hospital is to blame for the escalating industrial at the hospital.
Members of the INMO and SIPTU feel frustrated and ignored. The Minister has failed to deal with the concerns being raised at Mid Western Regional Hospital
On Wednesday October 12th a bus carrying members of the INMO and SIPTU will travel from Limerick to Dublin for a lunchtime protest outside Government Buildings.
Nurses at the hospital have taken this decision after talks between unions and HSE management broke down last night. Minister Reilly promised the people of Ireland he would be a hands-on Minister, that he would be in charge of our health service. He has failed to deliver. The Minister hasn’t visited the Mid Western Regional Hospital since the onset of these difficulties and has shown intention of doing so.
“The Minister’s new ‘Special Delivery Unit’ has made a series of recommendations in a report on the hospital. The Minister should be ensuring these recommendations are implemented and patient safety is at the core of the resolution to this dispute.
“Unions representing nurses have said the HSE appears not to be interested in resolving the dispute. James Reilly must take the lead on this situation now.”
