Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Public Expenditure and Reform, Seán Fleming TD, has described the late publication of amendments to the Public Service Management Amendment Bill yesterday evening “as another cynical example of this Government’s arrogance”.
He commented: “The government lecture us all about reform on how legislation will be introduced and how the public will be consulted so that their concerns will be taken under consideration. None of this has been applied to this Bill yet it will have a major impact on how the sick pay scheme of public sector employees is applied.
“These government proposals have not been discussed at Committee nor have the public sector trade unions been asked to discuss the Bill in its entirety and how it will be applied from January 1st 2014.
Deputy Fleming concluded: “I have now asked the Chairman of the Finance Committee to invite in the Public Sector Trade unions so that we can discuss and analyse the application of the government’s amendments and how they will be applied.”
