Fianna Fáil TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Niamh Smyth, says the procurement process for the works at Bailieborough Garda Station is to commence in the coming weeks, but warns the slow process in delivering this Garda Station has been disappointing for the area.

Deputy Smyth commented, “We still await the delivery of the long promised new Garda Station in Bailieborough. In 2015 a new state of the art Garda Station was planned for the town. We are now 4 years on and the site of the new station remains surrounded by hoarding with no work being carried out.

“Finally, the Minister for Justice has informed me that a procurement process for the works at the new Station will begin this month.

“The role of Gardaí in the border region has become vital due to a sharp rise in organised crime. For these Gardaí to fulfil their duties to the best of their abilities they require proper facilities. It is imperative we have delivery on this long-awaited Station for Bailieborough.

“I will continue to raise this matter with the Minister for Justice until we have an opening date for our Station,” concluded Deputy Smyth.
