Fianna Fáil Senator Averil Power has said there is no excuse not to bring the Priory Hall nightmare to a complete close within 21 days.
Reacting to the government’s announcement of a three-week resolution process, the North Dublin Senator said this must mean a final end to the heartbreak endured by former Priory Hall residents.
“The former Priory Hall residents will take some hope from today’s announcement and it’s up to the government now to deliver,” said Senator Power.
“After 2 years of utter heartbreak, the Priory Hall residents must finally be allowed to move on with their lives. They have been treated appallingly by the authorities and by the banks, they have lived in limbo for far too long and they simply cannot take any more.
“This latest process must mean a final end to their nightmare once and for all. It’s essential that all lenders participate and that this is a real solution and not just another attempt to kick the issue down the road. The solution is straight-forward – demolish Priory Hall and allow the residents to transfer their mortgages to new properties. There is no reason why this cannot be agreed within 3 weeks.
“Obvious questions arise about why it took so long for the government to intervene and set up this resolution process. But the absolute priority now must be to ensure that the former residents of Priory Hall are finally allowed to put this nightmare behind them and move on with their lives,” said Senator Power.
