Fianna Fáil TD for Wexford, John Browne, says priority must now be given to ensure funding for the N25 New Ross bypass and N11 Gorey to Enniscorthy Road is made available immediately.
Deputy Browne was reacting to the announcement that contracts have been signed for the construction of a fly-over at Newlands Cross and the upgrade of the N1 at Arklow.
“While the announcements made yesterday about funding for these Public Private Partnerships (PPP) are to be welcomed; priority must now shift to finalise similar projects in New Ross and Gorey.
“The construction of the New Ross bypass and the N11 Gorey to Enniscorthy Road are long overdue and would bring significant employment to the county. These would be extremely important infrastructure projects for Wexford, providing hundreds of direct construction jobs and significant spin-off employment. These infrastructure projects have the potential to kick-start the economy in Wexford and will be hugely beneficial to many businesses in the county.
“I am calling on the Government TDs in Wexford, especially Minister Brendan Howlin, to impress upon the Minster for Transport the need to speed up these works. Finance is available from the European Investment Bank for the projects in Wexford and all we need is more political will to generate the required interest from private contractor to bring the plans to fruition.”
