Sean was born in 1960 and is a member of a long established farming family. He is married to Mary Clare Meaney and they have three daughters and one son. After attending the De La Salle primary School and St. Joseph’s Academy Kildare, he worked for a time for Dublin Corporation. Joined the Fianna Fáil Party in 1979 after he had returned to full time farming.

Re-elected to Dáil Éireann in May 2007 and February 2011; Member of the Oireachtas Committee on Education and Science; Member of the Oireachtas Committee on Constitutional Amendment on Children; Elected to Seanad Eireann on the Agricultural Panel in 2000; Elected to Kildare County Council in 1985; Member of a team working to deliver an amalgamated Community School for Kildare Town, which replaces the three individual second level schools, (St. Joseph’s Academy, Presentation Convent Secondary School, the Kildare VEC School); Founder member and current director of Voluntary Housing Associations throughout South Kildare and has seen over 200 homes built or at advance stage of planning.
