I have been representing Dundalk South on Louth County Council for 20 years, acting as chairperson of the County Council in 08/09.
Before entering local politics I was an active participant in all things community from Historical Society to Group Water Scheme Secretary and was a key player in the supply of local water network in Knockbridge/Kilkerly area.I have served the people of Louth County Council since first elected in 1991 and have been Chairperson of the Louth County Development Board for five years and Chairperson of Louth County Council in 2008-2009.I am involved in many committees and organisations such as Knockbridge Tidy Towns, Louth Economic and Future Planning, Special Policy Committee, County Louth Vocational Education Committee, Mid Louth Community Employment Scheme and Louth County Enterprise Board. I am also a member of Louth Archaeological and Historical Society and Irish Farmers Association. I have been instrumental in the development of Stephenstown Pond, a community project in Knockbridge where I have been secretary for 21 years.I am currently Joint Chairperson of the Memorandum of understanding between Newry / Mourne Council and Louth Local Authorities. The committee has been a catalyst for co-operation in North / South relationship and successfully attracting funding from the European Union for unique approach to business.I also represent Louth County Council on East Border Regions committee and am an active member of its tourism partnership which has attracted large investment in many worthwhile projects both North and South.I was an unsuccessful Dáil Candidate in the 2011 election but received a creditable first preference vote tally despite the backlash against the party.I believe I have your interest as a County at heart and I will endeavour to represent you to the best of my ability in an honest and pragmatic approach to all issues big and small.
