· Successfully campaigned to restore 24/7 Doctor on Call service at Cottage Hospital Drogheda.
· Continuing to fight for new 100 Bed facility at St. Mary’s on the Dublin Road, for respite care and long stay patients, a promise broken by Government T.D.’S in Drogheda.
· Persisted advocate for many rural communities, ensuring roads and cul-de-sacs are repaired and maintained.
Local Authority Housing Crisis
Serious house building programme only way to impact on massive housing list. Prime Louth County Council land – with all services on the doorstep – lying idle. Little or no 3 bed-semi “starter homes” under construction, putting huge pressure on rental sector. Rent Supplement families being pushed into shoddy accommodation as a result. New mortgage rules adding to the crisis.
VAT and levies at sky-high levels prohibiting builders from entering the first-time buyers’ market. I am shocked at the Government and the Construction Federation inaction on this.
No Tenant Purchase Scheme for existing 3,600 tenants in Co. Louth. My advice was always sought and very much appreciated by tenants throughout the town. The Fianna Fail scheme in 1988 was the best in the history of the state.
Mortgage-to-rent scheme. To the forefront in County Louth, as the way forward for distressed home owners in mortgage arrears.
Fair Deal Scheme
Advising families in Drogheda and district in relation to valuations and admissions to nursing homes. The waiting list for discharge of medically fit patients to access homecare or nursing home is currently 16 weeks in Drogheda, which is unacceptable.
Property Tax Bombshell in 2016
Notice of Motion Louth County Council April 2015. Owners faced with 150% increase in Drogheda and throughout County Louth. Example: Band 1 currently paying €90 automatically increase to Band 2 which will be €123.50.
Marched with, and fully supported, the people of Drogheda in their stand against the water charges. This is adding a further financial worry on hard-pressed families
